The Effect of Using Constructivism Approach through Special Student Worksheet Media in Learning Reading Skills

The aim of this research is to describe: 1) skills in reading descriptive text before using a constructivist approach through special student worksheets; 2) whether the skills in reading descriptive text are the same before using the constructivist approach through special student worksheets per sample group; 3) skills in reading descriptive text after using a constructivist approach through special student worksheets; 4) whether the skills in reading descriptive text are the same after using a constructivist approach through special student worksheets per sample group. The research was conducted at SMPIT Fajar Ilahi Bengkong, Batam. Research activities took place at the beginning of the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The population of this study were 7th grade students who took the descriptive text reading skills test, totaling 49 students. This number is divided into 22 students from the al-Qasim class and 27 students from the Juwairiyah class. The sample was determined at 44 students referring to the formula developed by Slavin; 20 students from al-Qasim class and 24 students from Juwairiyah class; chosen at simple random without replacement. Data was collected using multiple choice test instruments. The data were analyzed using parametric inferential statistics, namely one-sample t-test and paired-sample t-test. Research results: 1) skills in reading descriptive text before using a constructivist approach through a special student worksheet with a mean score of 9,70; 2) there is no difference in descriptive text reading skills before using the constructivist approach through special student worksheets per sample group; 3) skills in reading descriptive text after using a constructivist approach through a special student worksheet with a mean score of 12,77; 4) there is no difference in descriptive text reading skills after using the constructivist approach through the special student worksheet for the sample group. Referring to findings-1 and findings-2, the constructivist approach has a significant influence in learning descriptive text reading skills.
