The Relationship between Adopted Basic Word Listening Skills and Three-Digit Integer Listening Skills

Abstract

The research objectives are to describe: 1) basic adoption listening skills; 2) skills in listening to three-digit whole numbers; 3) the relationship between the skill of listening to adopted basic words and the skill of listening to three-digit integers. The research was conducted at Ibnu Hajar Asqalani Integrated Islamic Elementary School. The population of this study were 5th grade students who took a performance test on skills in listening to basic adopted words and a performance test on skills in listening to hundreds of numbers. They numbered 11 students. All students were used as sample members. The instruments of this research are: 1) a test of listening skills for basic words adopted; 2) test of skills in listening to three-digit integers. All instruments are in the form of a three-option multiple choice. The sample members used an answer sheet containing three options for each item while each item was read aloud by the teacher with one repetition. Apart from data collection instruments, this article also uses instruments for validation activities, namely validation of test instruments and validation of data analysis, namely the scoring stage and calculating descriptive statistics such as mean and percent. The instrument in question is a research checklist. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical procedures, namely mean and percent procedures for objective-1 and objective-2. Specifically to achieve goal 3, a level correlation procedure is used. Research results: 1) the skill of listening to the basic words of adoption is in the medium category; 2) skill in listening to hundreds numbers in the medium category; 3) the relationship between skills in listening to adopted basic words and skills in listening to three-digit integers produces a moderate relationship which is marked by a value of r = 0.51.
